I am a strong leader that is organized and patient. I have closely mentored several undergraduate students and closely worked with an additional six undergraduate students with their own research projects. I have served in leadership roles and volunteered in a variety of organizations.
Plant Genomics RET
Organized, recruited, and mentored two 7-12th grade science teacher for a 5 week summer Research Experience for Teachers. Teachers were trained in molecular biology technics, read scientific literature, discussed problems relevant to genomics, evolution and biotechnology, and where given tools to take back to their classrooms.
Undergraduate Students 2014
Lucas Gilfillan(3 terms) - Lucas is working on understanding the 'general purpose genotype' in the common morning glory though series of greenhouse experiments utilizing lines artificially selected for high and low fitness (capstone). He presented his work at the Undergraduate Conference Spring 2014
Zara Ahmed(5 terms) - Zara has worked on with me looking at the maternal provisioning in the common morning glory. I am now as assisting her on her senior capstone project looking at photosynthetic rates of the common morning glory in conditions of drought and salinity stress. She presented her work at the Undergraduate Conference Spring 2013.
Ted Schaible(1 term) - Ted is using a green house study to look at the interactive affects of drought and salinity in the relative growth rate of the common morning glory. He presented his work at the Undergraduate Conference 2013.
Scott Curran(1 term) - Scott worked with me in the field during the Summer of 2011. For his project he looked at herbivory in the common morning glory to determine if resistance to herbivory differs when in interspecific competition with maize.
David Whitsett(1 term) - Dave assisted in collecting flower number and seed number from a greenhouse study looking at Baker's 'ideal' weed traits 'continuous seed output' and 'high seed output'.
Travis Thedders(1 term) - Travis assisted in my large field experiment in planting, maintaining and recording data. After working with me he went on to be a lab technician in our lab.
